Violence at GTA IV Launch

April 30, 2008 · Print This Article

I’m an avid video gamer, but it is incidences such as the ones described below that produce me hopping mad as they bring nothing but disrepute to the world of video gaming. Apparently a man was stabbed while waiting to pick up the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV, while muggers shattered the jaw of a teen who just picked up a fresh copy. Thankfully, the stabbed victim did not give up his ghost as unlike a video game, you don’t have additional lives in the real world.

For crying out loud, it is only a video game and you can hardly get any decent resale value from game stores for it. I suppose in a small way the type of game does have a bearing on how the target demographic acts - you don’t form out incidences of stabbing and jaw-smashing when a new Pokemon title or Mario Kart Wii was launched.
